It is true that much of the AI progress that has been spearheaded by companies like OpenAI, DeepMind, Google, IBM, Meta, and the like has slowly but surely entered the lives of people all across the globe.

Perhaps the most well-known example of this is that generative AI has rocketed to the top of many people’s growing consciousness about AI Many people became aware of this in November of 2022, when ChatGPT, developed by the Microsoft-backed OpenAI, became publicly available.

People to this day are still using ChatGPT, and are showing no signs of stopping.

The fact of the matter is that, although many of us are familiar with AI, these technologies and the benefits that they bring, such as increasing your productivity, have not really been seen in countries that are far less wealthy than the United States, where much AI research is done.

This is where the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation comes in.

Implementing AI Across the World

According to tech news resource Geekwire, the Gates Foundation is planning on supporting projects that can help implement AI into lower-income countries.

Areas that the Gates Foundation are specifically looking to improve in those countries include agriculture, education, and health care.

For projects that can find creative applications for AI that can have a positive impact on those pain points, the Gates Foundation will provide up to $100,000 in funding.

This could encompass 30 or more projects, as this initiative has a $3 million budget.

How Will the Global Use of AI Affect Business Owners?

Right now, we are still in a phase where AI is slowly becoming a known and felt presence in many areas of the workplace.

For instance, generative AI like ChatGPT are being used by content producers everywhere to speed up content output.

Already, we are seeing that AI will be a difference-maker for business owners. There will be businesses that stay ahead of the curve by implementing AI, and there will be businesses that fall behind because of a resistance or slowness.

It will especially be hard to ignore once lower-income countries have implemented AI into their societies, which will turn AI into something that is as global as the smartphone.

Using ChatGPT is just the start, as things will certainly upscale from there. There are some businesses and even entire industries that have been ahead of the curve when it comes to AI For instance, up to 70% of global finance firms use IBM Watson.

The Gates Foundation is hoping to upscale AI in lower-income countries gradually, so that the biggest problems can ultimately be taken care of, and the country can grow in good health. In the same way, businesses all over the world will have to upscale their use of AI in order to stay competitive.
