When it comes to the ongoing AI wars, there is a whole lot of noise about the next and latest innovation. One of the most recent is the revamped and upgraded version of ChatGPT that goes by the name of GPT-4

In the midst of the Total Noise that has been shrouding the world of AI, it can be difficult for a business owner to get just one simple question answered: How can this technology grow my business?

Google’s version of ChatGPT goes by the name of Bard, and Bard should be showing up in our Google Docs sometime in the near-future.

Bard will act like ChatGPT, in that it will be like a writing assistant that can answer a wide variety of prompts. This will make everything from writing memos to emails much more streamlined and efficient.

And, yes, it may be used by many businesses for SEO. But this can be problematic, for reasons we will detail below.

Using Generative AI for Your SEO Efforts

In this new Google Docs that Google is developing, users will be getting a “How may I help you?” prompt that will make all of your writing efforts easier.

Tell it to write you a 500-word blog on dishwasher soap (because you are a dishwashing soap company) that uses the keywords “best dishwasher soap” at least three times, and it may very well make that happen.

However, the caveat here is that just because the writing becomes easier for you in the hands of incredibly sophisticated technology, do not let the technology’s sophistication trick you into thinking the writing will necessarily be better.

This is especially the case for SEO efforts.

The Problem with AI-Generated Written Content for SEO

It is actually quite interesting that Google has announced that Google Docs will be including a generative AI feature. Recently, there have been efforts to make AI-written content more detectable, which could hurt SEO efforts.

Such AI-written content will become detectable by “watermarks” in the text, specific quirks such as using a certain word more than the usual amount to give automated ranking platforms an easy way to detect whether a piece of writing was human-generated, or AI-generated.

It is unknown whether Google will actually include a watermark or not in its Google Docs AI feature.

You Cannot Get a “Fast Pass” to Quality SEO Work

At the end of the day, AI watermarks, in addition to the grammatical and factual errors, some really quite costly, that generative AI is known to make, will end up making generative AI more of a pain than a plus for your SEO efforts.

In other words, stick to using human content writers who can provide the “human touch” that is relevant to not only your audience but search engine ranking algorithms.

By all means, go ahead and use Bard (once it is available, that is) to help you write up a LinkedIn profile or the like. It is really only with SEO efforts where such generative AI becomes a problem, due to the search engines’ intentional allergy to AI-written content.

Though generative AI may not be useful when it comes to writing your blogs and social content, there are plenty of AI applications that are available to business owners right now. These applications can help you in marketing, SEO, and beyond. Read on below for more details.
