If ESPN’s latest AI-related endeavor with Disney (which owns ESPN) pays off, then games that look like something out of Space Jam will become the norm.

Well, not quite Space Jam, because Disney does not own the rights to those Warner Brothers characters. Let’s go with Disney On Ice, then, with real animated characters.

What these media giants are experimenting with are live broadcasts of anticipated sports games, one example being hockey, featuring an entertaining Disneyfied twist to things.

For one thing, you can expect an animated chicken referee that squawks out its calls.

Right now, the experiment involves a PR push for Disney, in that it is using characters from its animated series “Big City Greens” in the broadcasts. The live sports are also for NHL games.

Die-hard fans of the NHL, and even just casual TV viewers, may find some of this stuff confusing, bizarre, annoying, distracting, or all of these things and more.

However, depending on the success of this endeavor, you may be seeing more animated chicken referees in upcoming ESPN broadcasts. And it may spread beyond the NHL into, for example, March Madness.

How Does AI Tie Into This?

You may be wondering just how in the heck Disney is able to animate a live broadcast of a sports game in real-time.

No, there is not a team of Adderalled animators with severe carpal tunnel furiously scribbling out the characters of Big City Greens in real-time.

There are indeed animators at work, but they are not human. Nor do they get tired, or deal with hand cramps. They can also animate at lightning speed as well.

These animators are artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.

Specifically, they belong to a class of AI called “generative AI”, which creates original content based on prompts given to it.

Perhaps the most world-famous example of generative AI is ChatGPT, which recently got updated as GPT-4.

ChatGPT, in its various iterations, generates written text based on whatever a user tells ChatGPT to create.

This blew the mind of the Internet, but what is wild is that so many people still do not realize just how sophisticated AI already is—and is becoming.

Instead of writing text, AI seriously can create stellar animation instantly, based on the data such as the live video feed of a sports broadcast.

Whether you are a sports fan or not, this is very interesting to see. It can also be seen how this can tie into marketing as well.

Video AI Content Generation in Marketing and SEO

The sports broadcast animation example shows that AI can be used as a great creative collaborator. In marketing and SEO, this is certainly the case.

Anyone who spends time on the Internet, specifically social media sites like LinkedIn, knows that video is as important, if not more so, than written content.

It will not be long before business owners will have the option to have AI add tons of great additions to video content in mere instants. It will be easier than ever to create engaging and interesting video content that will reach your existing and potential customer base.
