It is here already. GPT-4 has been announced.

Ever since ChatGPT shocked the public during its debut just five months ago, in November of 2022, the AI world has seen a boom.

That boom was not only in internal development and innovation but in public interest as well. Also, plenty of interest from businesses looking to leverage chatbots like ChatGPT.

Improving ChatGPT Is Good for Business Owners

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has done anything but rest on its laurels ever since the world was dazzled, and occasionally upset, by a technology that nearly instantly produces responses to a (literally) virtually unlimited array of prompts that it can answer.

A lot of this is thanks to Microsoft’s multiple sizable investments, each exceeding a billion dollars, that has provided OpenAI the capital to keep innovating.

And if you are a business owner, then you should be grateful that Microsoft has stepped in with its vision of making ChatGPT more commercial. Even if you do not plan on using ChatGPT, competitors such as IBM will certainly be improving their own chatbots to keep up.

If AI that can write you a poem about gingerbread sailors traveling across a chocolate sea filled with candy whales was not impressive enough for you, then GPT-4 is sure to satisfy your appetite for technological innovation.

What’s New with GPT-4

The biggest thing to understand about GPT-4 is that it is an improvement over the previous model, much like cars often have new tweaks and improvements, rather than vast overhauls, with each new iteration.

It is still at heart a text-generating large language model (or, LLM; such LLMs are named as such because they are trained on large amounts of data featuring natural languages like English).

There Are Still Problems with GPT-4

The biggest concerns surrounding ChatGPT have not been completely ironed out in GPT-4. These concerns involve AI “hallucination”, where the agent will answer with incorrect information.

Also, GPT-4, like its predecessor, is still limited to answering about events that occurred before September of 2021, which makes it difficult to justify using if you are trying to create content that is relevant to customers.

The best way to explain where OpenAI’s ever-evolving chatbot is at is that it is more or less in a beta-testing phase, where the public more or less acts as willing test-users to help the developer identify weaknesses with the platform.

This is in contrast to IBM Watson, which has been industry-tested for over a decade now, being used by countless companies across a wide variety of industries, which you can read about here.

What Business Owners Interested In AI Should Do

As mentioned in the above section, GPT-4 is simply the latest iteration in a very cleverly marketed beta-testing phase that makes people feel as if they are using a finished product, but are really only testing a work in process to help a company further polish it.

If you want AI chatbots, automated prediction platforms, and the like to grow your business, then check out IBM Watson, which has for over a decade now been the AI platform of choice for enterprise companies to small business owners alike.
