Classification is a good starting point for AI systems because it can be relatively low risk if the human in the loop is not blindly accepting AI’s classifications and is adept at spotting anomalies. 

You could even get some anomaly insurance by implementing an anomaly-detecting AI agent that checks the classifying AI agent for anomalies, almost as a double-check so that the human does not have to fully worry about making sure the classifier AI is aligned. 

AI Decisioning in E-Commerce

Moving from classification to decisioning is an easy step forward because it still keeps AI in the zone of predictions. 

With decisioning, can still be low-risk for AI to simply recommend decisions for your business, so long as the AI is well-trained and you have a good enough human-in-the-loop process for detecting any hallucinations or wrongheadedness among the AI.

AI can handle the drafting of the notification, even personalizing it for specific customers. This can be a nice little touch of personalization that a customer will appreciate more than a generic “Your item return has been processed” message. 

What’s more, you can have AI go ahead and send the email after a quick human-in-the-loop review. (We do not recommend wholly unsupervised return notifications from AI because hallucinatinos could confuse or outright lie to customers about the status of their return.)

And, like most customer service, there are benefits for the business itself in that it creates documentation of the return process.
